We are happy to announce that we are now working on our co-authored publication, “The ‘Excited Pessimism’ of Portuguese Media Owners in Montreal in the Midst of the Covid Crisis and Its Impact on Their Industry”. In this paper, we explore how Portuguese media owners in Montreal are responding to a double crisis in maintaining business sustainability and post-COVID economic recession. Drawing from interview data with stakeholders in the Portuguese community in Montreal, we connect endemic issues within the media industry to more situated contexts of ethnic media. Furthermore, we consider possibilities of cooperation among media owners to collectively withstand the current challenging conditions of the media landscape.
